The Legend of A Dragon & His Pig

In 2 days it will be the Dragon Year of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Which also means we have live another twelve full moons and if one full moon is approximately 29 days, well, then we have stayed alive for another 365 days +/-

Before I go on with the legend of the dragon and it’s pig, here is a brief introduction of the Asian Culture and its Calendar being different from others. Well, the Chinese calendar combines the lunar and solar systems together. The Year and Day cycles use the solar system. However, there are two different Month cycles in the Chinese calendar. One uses the lunar system and the other uses the solar system. In the lunar system of Month, the new moon day is the first day of a lunar month. The length of a lunar month is the length of time between two new moon days

The year begins at the beginning of the second moon, after the winter solstice (in the middle of January; at the beginning of February). The lunar year account twelve the moons and a lunar month lasts 29 and a half days.

The lunar year are represented by animals and all of us are born in the year of one animal or another. The cycle start with the year of the Rat and then the cow, the tiger, the rabbit and so on. You will be able to relate this to the below picture in clockwise directions. And each time you celebrate your own animal year, you will be 12 years older!

The Lunar Calender & Its Representing Animals

Jos happen to be born in the year of the Dragon and me the year of the Pig. I’m a believer of astrology, not completely but it helps as a guidelines on compatibility of two animals and it’s characteristics. Well, just for fun at least. There are some truth in these and we can choose to believe or ignore when the truth turns ugly.

That's Me!

According to the Astrology of me being a pig, there are the good
and bad.

And here are the GOOD :
sensible, sensual and sensitive, sweetly naive, caring, self
sacrificing, erudite, talented, open-handed, candid, outgoing,
amusing, charitable, obliging, graciously hospitable and virtuous.
(Ahem, I can’t help but agree to the above positive traits :D)

And the BAD:
hot-tempered, pessimistic, outrageously epicurean, earthy to a
fault, sardonic, snobbish, snide, authoritarian, competitive,
know-it-all, stingy, victimized and sometimes downright
criminally mad at the world.
(Well, pretty accurate as well of which I’m not proud of.

Pigs in general are more comfortable giving of their own time or attention than they are to ask others for it. “Its better to give than to receive” would probably be the Pig’s motto.  They do not find asking for help an easy task and would rather carry the burden themselves. Pigs will do anything they can to maintain a sense of peace among family or friends. This can lead to a tendency to be taken advantage of, but Pigs basically forgive and forget everything. They are compassionate souls who simply want to keep the peace. 🙂

That's Jos!

And now, a introduction to the fiery Dragon which I so love! A
note to these comments: I didn’t write them.

The GOOD:
vibrant, magnanimous, charismatic, principled, self-sufficient, discriminating, compelling, sentimental, accomplished, noble-hearted, healthy and prodigiously shrewd.
(I cannot agree enough to almost everything!)

The BAD:
bombastic, dissatisfied, ruthless, demanding, opinionated, mawkish, egocentric, defensive, power-mad, foolhardy, willful and pompous.
(I prefer to not be judgemental but Jos can be ruthless sometimes,
somehow I feel, it’s better to be ruthless and outright than play
the game and hurt someone unknowingly.)

Dragons are the free spirits of the Zodiac. Conformation is a Dragon’s curse. Rules and regulations are made for other people. Restrictions blow out the creative spark that is ready to flame into life. Dragons must be free and uninhibited. The Dragon is a beautiful creature, colorful and flamboyant. An extroverted bundle of energy, gifted and utterly irrepressible, everything Dragons do is on a grand scale – big ideas, ornate gestures, extreme ambitions. However, this behavior is natural and isn’t meant for show. Because they are confident, fearless in the face of challenge, they are almost inevitably successful. Dragons usually make it to the top.

I’ve read these notes and write ups umpteen times, although each time it says a dragon and a pig makes a perfect couple, I cannot help but wonder what makes a total extreme opposite be compatible with one another.

Once upon a time, in a far away land, cold and misty. A happy and carefree Dragon was given a task to fly 6000miles across the globe to a strange, warm land – The Philippines, to do what he does best – socializing. Well, take note that during that era, socializing is the main skill one need to master in order to succeed and make a living.

Master Random: Dragon, I have a task for you. Here is a pair of wings, now go to the east, tell them how mighty the westerners are and bring back some beans for me! You have one week to complete the task but remember,  if you don’t succeed, do not return, you will be made to stay in the East for the rest of your life!

Dragon J : Well, Why not? I’m adventurous and I’ve never been to the east. This must be a good opportunity for me and a great start to conquer the World! WA HA HA HA HA! *Evil Grin*

Master Random: NOW GO Dragon! TAKE THIS! (Master Random pass Dragon J a pair of Wings and his clothed Armour, but he forgot a shield!

Dragon J fly as scheduled…… (At this time, the flying music start – to the rhythm of “I will Survive” ) 🙂

Fiery Dragon J started his Flying Adventure for the 1st Time!

At this time, Piggy J was struggling her ass out with her job being at risk.

A Sad Pig

She’d lost her job that she has worked for a long time because her employer has decided to quit their business. She was left to finish up the last bit of some transactions with a glum. Her life was at it’s worst. Everything didn’t seem right.

The working environment was also at it’s worst. She was made to work in a dump and gets all smelly and dirty at the end of each day.

Nobody cares enough to share a helping hand while she struggles
with a sad face everyday.

The Almighty Fiery Dragon J has arrived in the east with a big Bang. A always smiley and happy dragon meeting the easterners for the very first time was too exciting. He faces a huge crowd of other animals that he hasn’t met before. The many culture clashes and understanding came across his path but he conquered them all.

The Chaotic Assembly of the Animals.

Fiery Dragon J enjoys every bit of the adventure
even though it was also a challenge. He never fails to
take everything positively and his “socializing” skills
comes in handy in many ways. Well, he survived.

On the 4th day of his adventure, he received a
message via messenger Pigeon. He opened the
message with a light smile to realise it’s another
task from Master Random!

Dear Dragon J, we have an urgent task for you to fly
another 5 hours from where you are now to this place
called the “Singa Island”. There is a damsel in distress
and you are required to use a lot of your “Socializing”

Dragon J fold the paper with a serious smile and said
to himself – Dragon J to the rescue!

The faithful day came, Dragon J arrived in Singa Island feeling hot and sweaty. His eyes squint from the brilliant sunshine but he never fails to keep that charismatic smile. He wondered around for abit and landed himself in Piggy J workplace. The door pushed open and he asked with his famous smile “I’m here on a task to speak with Piggy J”

Piggy J and Dragon J meet for the first time and the feeling of “Love at first sight” spells in the air.

Piggy J was no long grumpy.

Piggy J’s smiled with a smile she hasn’t had for the longest
time when she meet Dragon J for the 1st time. She instantly
forgets how much her life suck at this point and how bad
situation was. She was totally enchanted by the positive
energy of Dragon J that came sincerely from within him.
Dragon J was at his best. He could not resist but work
harder than he should with his “socializing” skills. At the
end of it, he knows, it was – Love. 😛

Love @ 1st sight.

The duo, continue to “socialize” for a good 2 days with total enchantment for one another…. but that was it. Dragon J had to leave. He was told to not extend his stay in the east and he remembers that. Being a Dragon, his responsible instinct hit him too hard he had no other choice but to leave his undone personal business as it is.

Leaving Piggy J feeling worst than before. Now she has a work situation as well as a Love situation. Poor Piggy….. the cruelty of life sucks.

Dragon J arrived back in the cold, misty land missing the warm of the east. His life will never be the same again. Even though his energy and positive attitude never differs, he know, deep inside, someone far away is waiting for his return.

Mr Cupid @ Work

Despite the distance of the duo and the vast difference of the two. Mr Cupid did
not stop shooting his cupid arrow upon them. He was adamant that if Miss Piggy  can fall in love with A Frog….. A Dragon can fall in love with a Pig.

And so, the inseparable two continues with their long distance relationship with the help of Mr Cupid. They sends love notes to each other every day. And with the help of Mr Cupid, they were both given a new pair of wings so they could travel every few months to visit each other and keep the flame glowing.

Piggy J turns into a Flying Pig.

Today, Dragon J & Piggy J continues to fly to see each other
with a plan to eventually ground Piggy J from a warm climate
to a super cold climate.
Yes, true love comes with a sacrifice. Dragon J sacrifice his
carefree bachelor life and Piggy J has to sacrifice the warm
climate and beautiful people from the east.
And they both live Happily ever after……
